History of Cottonwood Heights, Utah

The Cottonwood Heights area was the main source for logs, lumber and other building materials for the homesteads of the pioneers. Back then the area was known as, "Big Cottonwood Canyon." This region soon became an overnight stopping location for lumber wagons and other wagons. Shortly afterwards, the establishment of a store, post office, brewery and tavern began to attract more settlers. On January 14, 2005 the Cottonwood Heights was incorporated as a city. Today, the city has ready access to medical facilities, fire, police, business establishments, freeway system, and major ski resorts.

As of 2000, it was determined that the City of Cottonwood Heights held about 27,569 people, 9,439 households, and 7,249 families. The racial demographics of the city was 93.57% White, 0.70% African-American, 0.27% Native American, 2.28% Asian, 0.32% Pacific Islander, 1.11% from other races, and 1.75% from two or more races. 3.07% of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race. The median income for a household then was $62,814, and the median income for a family was $70,083. The city's per capita income then was $26,935.
